Regional Tour - Giselle

Term 2 & 4

We are committed to bringing the world of dance to regional Queensland.

In 2013, the company will be performing the classic Romantic ballet Giselle in six locations across the state. We are also very excited to that our EdSquad will be delivering free primary and secondary school workshops in each location during the tour.

For younger primary school students, we offer our Creative Movement workshop, introducing children to the elements of dance that are taught in the Queensland Syllabus.  Upper primary and high school students can complement their Giselle experience with our specifically designed Ghost Dances workshop – a high energy, contemporary dance-based workshop which introduces the story, company repertoire and choreography in a fun and engaging way.  We also offer a Ballet workshop for high school students who are already studying dance.  Visit the Dance Workshops page to learn more about how to book your workshop.

Giselle

Beautiful and haunting, Giselle is a luminous masterpiece of Romantic ballet.

Her heart broken and her reason shattered, the innocent village girl Giselle succumbs to untimely death. Deep in the moonlit forest, she emerges in the twilight spirit world of the vengeful Wilis. When Giselle’s repentant lover Albrecht visits her grave, only her undying love and devotion can sustain him through the Wilis’ irresistible, deathly dance.

Requiring exceptional technical and dramatic skills, this heart-rending tale of love, remorse and forgiveness has held audiences spellbound since its première in 1841. Ai-Gul Gaisina’s traditional production of Giselle offers breathtaking, graceful dance, but ultimately it is the emotional depth of this exquisite work that will touch your heart.
