Elegance Schools Shows

2 & 3 August, 2013

We have selected two shows during the 2013 Elegance season for school groups to attend at a further discounted school group booking price, and we’ve created an exciting range of education opportunities for your students to learn more about the performance.

Creatives in the Classroom

Between 15 and 26 July, your class has the opportunity to chat in person or online with a member from the creative team behind Elegance.  We can arrange for the Elegance creatives to either visit your school or stream live into your classroom to introduce the performance, discuss their creative vision, and answer any burning questions your students might have before coming to the show.  This opportunity is a free event for any school group attending Elegance.  This opportunity is limited to the first six schools who book their tickets – so be sure to get in quick.

Synopsis

Artistic Director Li Cunxin brings together outstanding, diverse dance works, celebrating the talent and creativity of leading choreographers from around the world.

Poignant and uplifting, Ershter Vals pays tribute to the resilience of the human spirit. Created by US-based choreographer and Principal Dancer Ma Cong, it is performed to music from the Jewish ghettos of World War II, and skillfully weaves classical technique with graceful folk dance influences.

Rachmaninoff’s rich music sets the tone for Ben Stevenson’s award-winning Three Preludes. As two dancers fall in love, the growing intensity of their relationship is eloquently expressed through lyrical, emotive dance.

With virtuosic solos, dazzling pas de deux and ensembles, Greg Horsman’s Verdi Variations pays homage to the elegance and grace of Russian classical ballet. This grand and beautiful piece enchants with gentle humour and thrilling technique.

Completing the program is a new ballet from Brisbane-based dancer and choreographer Gareth Belling, danced to the inspiring music of Vivaldi.
